Class Description

This course is specially designed to further polish the candidates’ or practising VA’s/PA’s competencies in preparing and developing the plantation as an Agro-business establishment, field observation, analysing and interpreting data, estate auditing and writing precise reports especially on plantation operations. The authoritative materials used in the course will keep candidates updated on the latest developments and issues related to the industry. The information can be analysed and interpreted to assist them in making better decisions, and to correctly advise their superiors, subordinate staffs and the estate administration. Candidates will also improve their oral and written communication skills through argumentative discussions, deliberations on case studies and mock VA/PA report presentation. The hands-on field visits will be enable participants to further enhance and hone their observation, evaluation and trouble-shooting skills, control operational costs and improve the profitability of the estate.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

  • Clearly demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of the latest developments in the plantation industry.
  • Correctly explain the establishment of a rubber or an oil palm estate – from nursery, land clearing and preparation, planting, upkeep, production and processing according to GAP and determined standards.
  • Clearly demonstrate good observation and analytical skills and write accurate reports based on the field visits and estate audits.
  • Correctly interpret data from estate reports.
  • Effectively communicate with subordinate staffs and superiors on his recommendations to solve problems and improve estate agro-business performance.
  • Integrated the latest knowledge an plantation management to improve overall field operations.

DURATION:

  • The course is scheduled to be completed within 8 – 9  weeks, inclusive of assessments.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Visiting Agent or Planting Advisor for at least one (1) year working experience, or;
  • Senior Plantation Manager or General Manager for at least five (5) years working experience, or;
  • Manager for at least 8 years working experience in Plantation industry, and
    • Have at least a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) preferably in any agriculture discipline.
    • Field experience in replanting or new planting, immature and mature is compulsory.
  • All candidates must be able to communicate well in English and Malay language (spoken and written), while knowledge and ability to communicate in other foreign language is an advantage.
